Big Burden

I was looking at some school children waiting for their school buses while I was returning home today. Most of them were bit bending in front, due to the heavy school bags they carry on their back. The bags were looking double the weight of the kids. Pity for those kids! I was thinking of my school days, the bags were lot light with only few books in them. I don’t know what extra they are teaching the kids these days. The guidelines are that the school bag should not weigh more than 10% of the kid’s weight. I don’t think so the school managements are following that.

Deadline!

The days (err, the nights rather as I’m working in US business hours and sleeping all the day) are passing by so fast like a fighter plane. Now-a-days (nights??) I’m so obsessed with orkut, that I’m opening it first prior to even checking my work mails. Am I expecting someone special to leave a scrap that’s making me to check the site so frequently?? May be……I don't know...

On my way to home today, an ambulance passed by. It was 8 am and the traffic was heavy already with school buses and people trying to reach the work places in time. As we expect on our roads, the ambulance was having tough time going through the traffic. I was thinking of the patient and relatives, the agony they would be facing. Suddenly another thought came in my mind, what would be going on in the mind of the driver of that ambulance with so much of pressure on him to take the patient to hospital in time??? The deadlines at our work are nothing compared to his, right???

Brain?

Well, I'm presently short of ideas on what to pen down. I'm eating a chocolate now to see if that ignites something in my mind. Why chocolate, it's known to increase pleasant feelings, reduce tension. Hoping this way I can calm down and make my right brain work.

And now, what are these right and left brains?

In 1960s, an American psychobiologist Roger W Sperry has discovered that the human brain has two very different ways of thinking. One (the right brain) is visual and processes information in an intuitive and simultaneous way, looking first at the whole picture then the details. The other (the left brain) is verbal and processes information in an analytical and sequential way, looking first at the pieces then putting them together to get the whole. He was awarded Nobel prize also in 1981.

For some weird reason, our right and left brain hemispheres control the 'opposite' side of our bodies, so the right hemisphere controls our left side and processes what we see in our left eye while the left hemisphere controls the right side and processes what our right eye sees.

I've read from an article that though right-brain or non-verbal thinking is often regarded as more creative, there is no right or wrong here; it's merely two different ways of thinking. One is not better than the other, just as being right-handed is not superior to being left-handed. What's important is to be aware that there are different ways of thinking, knowing what your natural preference is, and if it's strongly verbal (left brain) rather than visual (right brain) being open to trying new approaches to make right brain work.

Hmmmm, whole chocolate is in the belly now but my right brain still seem to be sleeping...... :(

Life is moving on...feeling pity for the victims of terrorist attacks, laughing at cheap politics in the state, feeling sad for retiring sports legends....

Huh!! How could I forget Sep 5 is death anniversary of Mother Teresa, who has shown the world what humanity is. Paying homage to the angel of GOD, let us hope that her message of 'spreading the love' would be reaching to every person in the world.

September 5th

Today is birthday of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan celebrated as teacher’s day as we all know. The school days are playing in my mind, where we used to act as teachers for lower class students on this day. I still remember I used to opt for only Social studies (that too history…) for teaching, don’t know why? May be, I was confident that many doubts or questions wouldn’t be raised by the children on this subject. Finally, I’ve never won the prize :))

Also, Onam is being celebrated by Keralites today. A very good thing I’ve heard of Onam is it’s celebrated by the Kerala people of all class, creed and religion although it’s originated from Hindu mythology. A great example of our Secular India!!!

Where is the humanity??

This photograph shows dead body of a child embraced by her mother in debris. I was really shocked seeing this with tears dropping from my eyes. The short story of this family is:

The mother’s name is Selva, and child’s name is Waad(10 days old). Her husband Ali, 7 & 9 yrs old sons Hussain and Hasan were also found dead under the same debris. Her relatives described her as very smart, humane and having subtle sense of humor. Her husband was a taxi driver. They have constructed a new house recently and were planning to shift into the new house in two days from this fateful day when Haroof town was destructed by F-15s of Israel. The child Waad was lying in her mother’s arms. They were recognized by Selva’s brother-in-law seeing her wedding ring. And the rescue team has told that even Hussain and Hasan were found under the debris catching their mother’s arms and legs. God has brought them so close even during the death that it was tough separating the mother’s body from children’s.

Lebanon is being attacked and destructed by Israel just because 6 soldiers were killed and 2 kidnapped by guerilla organization Hizbullah. So many innocent are being killed in this madness of seeking power. Where is the world heading to? Will humanity just remain a word in the dictionary??

The journey to dad’s place went well except that co-passenger seated beside me was snoring all the night :) There was felicitation ceremony for dad organized by his department in the evening. All his department employees along with his managers were there; also present were some of my aunts and uncles. It turned out to be a very good ceremony followed by dinner. I felt very happy seeing many farmers coming up and telling good things about dad, how they have got very good yielding in the crops following dad’s suggestions.

Well, the plan of dad moving forward as per his speech in the felicitation ceremony is that he'll continue to be a farmer moving forward, cultivating in small land we have.

I’ve watched the present happening movie ‘Bommarillu’ with my parents. I’ve liked the movie as many of my friends did. A line from the movie to put it here: “We have a Romeo and we need a Juliet :)”
